Illuminierte Prachthandschriften is a prestigious twovolume art publication presenting a comprehensive visual record of the most significant illuminated manuscripts by the German master Berthold Furtmeyr (active 1470–1501), one of the leading book illuminators of the late medieval period and early Renaissance.

The first volume documents the miniatures from the Munich Furtmeyr Bible (Münchener FurtmeyrBibel, BSB Cgm 8010a) — a richly illustrated German Bible featuring an extensive pictorial program from Genesis through the Book of Ruth. The second volume focuses on the Salzburg Missal (Clm 15708–15712), the monumental liturgical manuscript adorned with vivid illuminations covering the church year’s observances. Both volumes include virtually all of the manuscripts’ miniatures, accompanied by scholarly introductions and descriptive commentary. Published on the occasion of the exhibition Berthold Furtmeyr. Meisterwerke der Buchmalerei at the Historical Museum in Regensburg, this edition comprises over 700 detailed color reproductions, showcasing Furtmeyr’s mastery of colour, ornamentation, and composition — hallmarks of his artistic achievement.

This work is an invaluable resource for collectors of illuminated manuscripts, art historians, curators, and anyone with an appreciation for the visual richness of medieval and Renaissance book culture.
